Fall Favorites Near Pismo Beach

Nicole M., Director of Sales & Marketing

Fall is one of my favorite times to explore San Luis Obispo County, especially with so many local events and seasonal celebrations happening throughout the area. From festive grape stomping and wine tastings to creative workshops, unique festivals, and dazzling light displays, there's something for just about everyone to enjoy. Whether you're planning a weekend filled with activities or simply looking for something different to experience during your stay at Inn at the Cove, here are a few upcoming events worth adding to your calendar.

Every October, Cambria and San Simeon get a little more colorful thanks to the Cambria Scarecrow Festival, one of the area's most unique fall traditions. Throughout the month, the streets come alive with hundreds of imaginative scarecrows, each with its own personality and creative details. From playful characters to elaborate themed displays, there's something new to discover around every corner. Running October 1 through 31, 2026, this annual festival is completely free to explore, making it a fun outing for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys a little seasonal whimsy.

Harvest season wouldn't be complete without a little grape stomping, and Opolo Vineyards in Paso Robles knows how to make it a celebration. Their annual Harvest Festival Dinner & Grape Stomp takes place October 16 and 17, 2026, with an evening of wine tasting, delicious food, live music, and traditional Balkan folk dancing. Guests can even roll up their pant legs and stomp freshly harvested grapes before enjoying dinner and dancing overlooking the vineyards. It's a fun opportunity to experience one of wine country's favorite harvest traditions while enjoying the festive atmosphere. I'd recommend planning ahead, as this is a popular event!

A glass of wine, live music, and an afternoon among the vineyards sounds like a pretty great way to spend a Saturday. On October 24, 2026, Laetitia Winery in Arroyo Grande will welcome guests from noon to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of music, delicious food, and estate and sparkling wines. Laetitia's vineyard setting makes it a lovely place to spend a few hours, especially when the weather is just right for sitting outside with a glass of wine. It's an easy addition to your itinerary if you're looking for a fun afternoon without venturing too far from the hotel.

The shoreline becomes a canvas during the Pismo Beach Sand Art Festival, returning November 7 through 9, 2026. This free, three-day celebration brings talented artists together to create enormous, intricate designs directly in the sand using simple tools like rakes and ropes. Visitors can watch the artwork take shape, admire the beautiful patterns from elevated viewing areas, and even participate in hands-on activities like sand globe making and community sand drawings. Since the creations are eventually washed away by the tide, each day's artwork is a little different. I'd recommend visiting around 3 to 4 p.m. for some of the best viewing opportunities.

Thanksgiving celebrations are even better when someone else handles the cooking! Cass Winery in Paso Robles is hosting a special Friendsgiving celebration on November 13, 2026, featuring a multi-course dinner prepared by Chef Candice in the winery's Barrel Room. With her own creative take on traditional Thanksgiving favorites, each course will be paired with Cass wines and enjoyed around a communal table. It's a wonderful opportunity to gather with friends, enjoy delicious food and wine, and celebrate the season without any of the cooking or cleanup.

A little wine and creativity make a lovely combination, especially with Thanksgiving just around the corner. On November 22, 2026, SummerWood Winery in Paso Robles is hosting a Thanksgiving Floral Workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Guests can create their own seasonal floral arrangements while enjoying a glass of wine and a cheese and charcuterie pairing. With all supplies provided, it's an easy and enjoyable way to spend an afternoon getting creative. Plus, you'll head home with a beautiful arrangement that's perfect for your Thanksgiving table or simply adding a little fall color to your home.

The magic of the season continues at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden, where Nature Lights transforms the gardens into a colorful illuminated experience. Running on select evenings from November 25 through December 27, 2026, this festive event features beautiful light displays, live music, and seasonal activities for all ages. Guests can wander through the glowing gardens, enjoy food from local chefs, sip hot cocoa by the fire pits, and take in the festive atmosphere. It's a wonderful way to welcome the holiday season and enjoy a memorable evening with family or friends.

What I love about this time of year is the variety of experiences waiting to be discovered, whether you're celebrating local traditions, enjoying seasonal flavors, getting creative, or simply spending time with family and friends. With so many events happening throughout October, November, and December, there's always something new to look forward to. And after a day of exploring, there's nothing quite like returning to Inn at the Cove to relax and enjoy a peaceful evening overlooking the water.
